The crew of Crew-7 with Russian cosmonaut Konstantin Borisov is on its way to the ISS, the docking of the Crew Dragon spacecraft to the American segment of the station is scheduled for August 27, reported in the press service of Roskosmos.
The launch of the Falcon-9 launch vehicle took place today, August 26, at 10:27:27 Moscow time from the NASA Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the crew, in addition to Borisov, included representatives of four space agencies. Among them are NASA astronaut Jasmine Mogbeli, ESA (European Space Agency) astronaut Andreas Mogensen and JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) astronaut Satoshi Furukawa.
“The launch of the ship into a given orbit and its separation from the second stage of the rocket is normal!” – the message says.
According to the state corporation, the docking of Crew Dragon to the Harmony node module of the US segment of the ISS is scheduled for August 27 at 15:39 Moscow time. Borisov became the 23rd Russian cosmonaut to fly on an American spacecraft, including the third on Crew Dragon, Roscosmos added. About 30,000 spectators watched the rocket launch in real time. The start of the mission was postponed several times in August, including informed Borisov himself.
In July 2022, Roscosmos and NASA signed an agreement on joint cross-flights to the ISS, according to which the countries will carry out two missions. The first one took place last fall. In September, the Russian spacecraft Soyuz MS-22 was launched to the ISS, carrying the Russians Sergey Prokopyev and Dmitry Petelin, as well as NASA astronaut Francisco Rubio. In October, Roscosmos female cosmonaut Anna Kikina arrived at the station on the Crew Dragon-5 spacecraft. After the Crew-6 mission in the fall of 2023, NASA astronaut Loral O’Hara will go to the ISS on the Soyuz MS-24.
In March, Roskosmos reported that cross-flights would continue in 2023-2024. In the first half of 2024, the Crew-8 mission is planned, the crew of which is Roscosmos cosmonaut Alexander Grebenkin.
