Three ex-policemen from the Golunov case were commuted and released from the colony
The court reduced the punishment for three former police officers convicted of falsifying a criminal case under a “narcotic article” against journalist Ivan Golunov. According to Golunov’s lawyer, instead of serving time in a colony, ex-policemen will perform forced labor.
Maxim Umetbaev and Akbar Sergaliev previously received 7.5 years in prison, Denis Konovalov – 4.5 years. Now they will perform forced labor in the correctional centers of the Federal Penitentiary Service.
According to the lawyer, Golunov in court supported the change of sentence for Konovalov and did not object to the same measure against Umetbaev and Sergaliev. At the same time, he opposed the release of Roman Feofanov, explaining that he did not apologize to him. The court refused Feofanov to replace the punishment, he will continue to serve a 7.5-year term in a colony.
