The lawsuit filed by businessman Oleg Deripaska against oppositionist Alexei Navalny and three foreign media was satisfied by the Zelenograd Court of Moscow.
Alexei Melnikov, Deripaska’s lawyer, spoke about this on Wednesday.
According to him, the court “ordered Navalny, as well as the American publications The Insider SIA (recognized as a foreign agent), Associated Newspapers Limited (publisher of the Daily Mail) and Newlines Institute for Strategy and Policy, to remove the controversial publication and publish a refutation.”
For this, the court gave the defendants 10 days from the date of entry into force of the decision.
In addition, they should remove the photo of Deripaska with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, because “this constitutes an interference with the plaintiff’s private life.”
Melnikov also said that the businessman did not put forward material requirements for the defendants, but the court imposed a court penalty on them in case they did not comply with the voluntary decision.
Then, as the lawyer said, “a penalty in the amount of 50 thousand rubles will be applied to each of them for each day of non-execution of the court decision.”
The decision will enter into force after 30 days, unless it is appealed by either party.
The lawyer also explained that the reason for going to court was “Navalny’s investigation about Deripaska and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov”, which was disseminated by foreign media. In it, as Melnikov emphasized, “false information was published.”
