The Chelyabinsk Regional Court declared illegal the refusal of the Chelyabinsk mayor’s office to hold pickets to the local branch of the Yabloko party for the return of direct elections of the mayor of the city. About it informed Yaroslav Shcherbakov, head of the local branch of Yabloko. In the refusal, the mayor’s office pointed out that the law does not contain the word “picket”.
August 23 Chelyabinsk City Hall refused in holding a series of pickets for the return of direct elections of heads of municipalities. The mayor’s office concluded that the wording “picket using prefabricated collapsible structures” does not comply with the law. After that, Yaroslav Shcherbakov filed a lawsuit against the decision of the mayor’s office.
Today, August 26, the court declared the actions of the mayor’s office illegal. The court decision contains the definition of the word “picket” from the dictionary of Sergei Ozhegov: “The explanatory dictionary of Ozhegov S.I., which is freely available, gives the concept of “picket”, including as “persons, a group of persons standing somewhere as a sign of demonstration “”.
