The court in St. Petersburg fined Rostelecom for the leakage of personal data for 60 thousand rubles
The Magistrate’s Court in St. Petersburg held PJSC Rostelecom administratively liable for violating the law on personal data, the joint press service of the courts of the northern capital reported on Tuesday.
It is reported that the company was fined 60 thousand rubles.
According to the case file, in June last year, Rostelecom provided “illegal access to information systems”, which led to the “distribution to an unlimited circle of persons” of the personal data of “the operator’s customers and employees in the telegram channel and on the website.”
Thus, the databases put up for sale contained data, including data that coincided with information from the Smart Home system.
The press service of the courts also reported that the PJSC asked to dismiss the case due to the lack of composition, without disputing the very fact of the data leak.
Last summer, a message appeared in one of the telegram channels that a table with data from Rostelecom’s internal accounts and Smart Home service customers had been “leaked” to the public.
Roskomnadzor drew up a protocol for the processing of personal data in violation of the law, which led to the leakage of customer data.
PJSC assured that they appointed an inspection and took all measures to protect the interests of subscribers.
