Nikita Zhuravel sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for burning the Koran

Nikita Zhuravel, who burned the Koran in Volgograd in May 2023, was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison. The Grozny court made the corresponding decision.

Zhuravel was found guilty under the article “Public actions expressing clear disrespect for society and committed for the purpose of insulting the religious feelings of believers.”

According to the case materials, Zhuravel burned the Koran near the Cathedral Mosque in Volgograd. He filmed the process and posted it on the Internet. During the investigation, it was decided to transfer Zhuravel from the pre-trial detention center in Grozny.

The term corresponds to the one requested by the prosecutor.
