The court dismissed the criminal case of the Novosibirsk ex-deputy who knocked down a child

In the Novosibirsk region, a justice of the peace released from criminal liability a dismissed district deputy who knocked down a six-year-old boy and left the scene of an accident, leaving the child lying on the road. The decision was made in connection with the reconciliation of the parties. This was reported to journalists on Friday, December 23, in the management of the judicial department for the region.

Recall that on October 30 in the city of Tatarsk of the same name district of the Novosibirsk region, a deputy of the local council, as well as the director of the Tatar road repair and construction department, Sergey Mamontov, driving a Toyota RAV-4 car, knocked down a six-year-old boy, after which he left the scene, while the child remained on the road. A video from a surveillance camera that appeared on the Internet shows that a “deputy” Toyota runs over a child, after which a man gets out of the car, inspects him and leaves. The boy fortunately did not receive life-threatening injuries. Passers-by called an ambulance for him. The child was hospitalized in the Tatar Central District Hospital, and then transported by helicopter for treatment to the regional hospital in Novosibirsk. The health of the boy was caused harm of moderate severity.

According to the local police, after the incident, the “deputy’s” car was put on the wanted list, but some time later the 67-year-old driver himself appeared at the police station. His examination showed that he was sober at the time of the accident.

“By the decision of the justice of the peace of the 1st judicial district of the Tatar judicial district of the Novosibirsk region of December 23, 2022, Mamontov S.I. exempted from criminal liability for committing a crime under Article 125 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, – said a representative of the department, commenting on the decision of the judge. “The criminal case against him was terminated due to the reconciliation of the parties.”

Earlier, information appeared in the press that the ex-deputy paid compensation of one million rubles to the mother of the downed boy.

The day before, the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee for the region reported that a 67-year-old man was accused of committing a crime under article 125 of the Criminal Code of Russia (“Knowingly leaving a person in a life-threatening and health-threatening condition without assistance”). During the preliminary investigation, Mamontov fully admitted his guilt. Immediately after the incident, administrative protocols were drawn up against the then-acting deputy for violating traffic rules, which caused harm to health of moderate severity, as well as for leaving the scene of an accident by the driver. On these charges, Mamontov served a sentence of 11 days in jail. In early November, the court, at the request of the prosecutor’s office, removed the man from the post of deputy. He was also expelled from the United Russia party.
