The Preobrazhensky Court of Moscow decided to confiscate the assets and property of former Open Government Minister Mikhail Abyzov and other defendants in his case for a total of 1.5 billion rubles.
The corresponding decision was made in order to repay the damage caused by the convicts.
The court found that Abyzov and his accomplices were guilty of creating a criminal community, money laundering, illegal entrepreneurship and commercial bribery.
The ex-minister, who refused to admit guilt, received 12 years in prison and a fine of 80 million rubles, although the prosecution requested 19.5 years in prison for him and a fine of 470 million.
Before his sentencing, Abyzov spent five years in the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center, becoming one of his old-timers. Over such a long period, a lot happened in his life, including a significant event – a wedding behind bars.
In the spring of 2022, when the hearings began, Abyzov doubted the existence of the victims in his case of fraud and organizing a criminal community. According to him, for three years the victims never appeared.
