The Leninsky District Court of Perm granted the petition of the FSB investigator for the Perm Territory to select a measure of restraint against the former chairman of the local organization “Center for Historical Memory”, human rights activist Alexander Chernyshov.
Alexander Chernyshov is accused of attempting to export cultural heritage objects, which the investigation considers part of the archive of the local branch of Memorial (the organization is included in the register of foreign agents, liquidated by decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation).
In the petition, the investigator pointed out that, being at large, the accused can hide from the investigation, put pressure on witnesses, and also obstruct the investigation of the case, since not all accomplices in the crime have been identified. Alexander Chernyshov’s lawyer said that his client pleaded guilty and offered to send him under house arrest. As a result, the court decided to satisfy the petition of the investigation, choosing a measure of restraint in the form of detention until July 11 for the accused.
Another defendant in the case is the former head of the local branch of Memorial, Robert Latypov, who is now outside the country.
