In Kyrgyzstan, the Constitutional Court of the republic revised its decision on the right of citizens of the country over 18 years of age to take a match instead of a patronymic.
The adoption of a resolution allowing adult residents to choose between match and patronymic names caused widespread public outcry. The explanation of the decision of the Constitutional Court notes that the majority of the population generally perceives the institution of matchmaking as a negative phenomenon, “encroaching on the moral foundations, values and traditions of the Kyrgyz people.”
The court overturned the ruling on the right to take the match.
