Scientists have proven that Uranus and Neptune have almost the same greenish-blue hue

The idea that has developed over decades of what the planets Uranus and Neptune look like is very different from reality. In photographs of space missions from the 1980s, Neptune appears dark blue and Uranus appears greenish. Scientists led by British astronomers have just now proven that these two planets are in fact almost the same color. The results of the “unvarnished” study were published in the Monthly Notices of the RAS.

According to the latest data from scientists, both ice giants have a greenish-blue hue.

According to Oxford University professor Patrick Irwin, astronomers have long known that the colors of the two planets in photographs do not really correspond to reality. In those days, as now, the practice of “improving” photographs was widespread. “This was necessary to see the details,” scientists now defend the use of filters. “It’s not that someone wanted to hide the truth.”
