The CIA did not see Russia’s readiness to use tactical nuclear weapons

The CIA sees no sign that Russia is actually preparing to use tactical nuclear weapons, Director of the US Central Intelligence Agency William Burns said in an interview with PBS.
Probably, he suggested, all the talk and actions around this topic have only one goal – “to intimidate the world.”
“I think saber-rattling is intended to intimidate. Today we do not see clear evidence of plans to use tactical nuclear weapons,” Burns said.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden said he did not think that Russian President Vladimir Putin would use tactical nuclear weapons in the conflict in Ukraine. The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said that if the Russian side uses nuclear weapons in Ukraine, this will provoke a powerful military response from the West. Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, called such words paranoia.
