On Friday, sculptures of sphinxes were again installed on the Egyptian bridge in St. Petersburg. Since September they have been under restoration. This was reported in social networks by the press service of the city government.
After examining the cast-iron sphinxes in autumn, corrosion was revealed, as well as the loss of gilding of decorative elements. She crumbled from the crown and scarf.
The press service specified that the restorers cleaned the sculptures with a special wash and repaired the damage. Some of them were received by her during the Great Patriotic War. Then the sphinxes were treated with a phosphate compound to protect against rust, and then they were painted and the gilding was renewed.
