Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Botan-Kharchenko left the party congress of the Serbian Socialist Party (SPS) after a video speech by former Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, RIA Novosti reports.
The SPS congress took place on Saturday, at which the delegates elected Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic as the leader of the party.
According to Botsan-Kharchenko, Tsipras allowed himself “absolutely groundless, false accusations against Russia” and insulted the Russian Federation.
The diplomat also expressed regret that he could not listen to the speech of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić at the congress. He heads the ruling Serbian Progressive Party, a coalition partner of the SPS.
