China began to export salt from Primorye through the Pogranichny checkpoint. The rapid increase in demand for the product was associated with the discharge of water by Japan from the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant into the ocean. It is reported by the Ussuri Customs.

“…Chinese citizens had such a product (salt) in their luggage last week…We note that there was no such product before,” customs officials said.

It is clarified that the volumes of products are small, so the service does not fix the weight.

Customs officers also noted that no dynamics with export was detected at other checkpoints.

Earlier, China’s largest salt producer National Salt Industry Group urged people not to panic over Japan’s discharge of water from nuclear power plants, as sea salt accounts for only 10% of total world consumption.
