A group of Portuguese and Spanish researchers exhumed the skeleton of a sauropod Brachiosaurus in Monte Agudo
According to CNN, one Portuguese, while working in the backyard, probably found the remains of the largest dinosaur in Europe.
A team of Portuguese and Spanish researchers have exhumed parts of what they believe is a fossilized brachiosaurus sauropod skeleton at Monte Agudo, Pombal, in Portugal.
Sauropods, which included the largest dinosaurs in the world, were herbivorous dinosaurs recognizable by their long necks and tails. Based on the discovered remains, the researchers calculated that the dinosaur was about 12 meters tall and 25 meters long.
So far, the team has unearthed important parts of the skeleton, including vertebrae and ribs.
“It is unusual to find that all the ribs of an animal, let alone this position, retain their original anatomical position,” Elisabeth Malafaia, a research fellow at the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Lisbon, said in a press release.
Construction work was going on in the yard of the house, the owner noticed several fossilized bone fragments in his backyard.
He contacted the research team, which began the first excavations.
The scientists pointed out that this confirms that dinosaur bones can be found almost everywhere.
