The Central Bank named the most popular phrases of telephone scammers – Kommersant

Central Bank brought the most popular phrases of telephone scammers that are used to steal citizens’ funds. Fraudsters often pose as employees of departments or the Central Bank, and also send fake IDs, the regulator noted.

The most common phrases of scammers:

• “A loan application has been submitted.” The Central Bank recommends hanging up if the loan application has not been sent;
• “Employee of the Central Bank.” Central Bank employees do not contact individuals to carry out banking transactions;
• “Special and secure account.” Fraudsters offer to transfer funds to a certain “special account” for safety, but there are no such accounts, the Central Bank notes;
• “Investigative actions are underway, help detain the scammers and do not disclose information.” Law enforcement officers do not conduct procedural actions over the phone and do not offer to participate in the arrest of fraudsters;
• “They are trying to steal your money, a suspicious transaction has been recorded.” Banks, the Central Bank notes, can suspend such operations without the participation of the client;
• “SIM card is about to expire.” The mobile operator’s SIM card, the Central Bank noted, does not have an expiration date;
• “Dictate the code from the SMS message.” The code is analogous to a handwritten signature and cannot be forwarded or communicated;
• “You are being harassed by a financial security specialist, a bank security officer.” In this case, the fraudster will be interested in the card data or the code from the SMS.

The Prosecutor General’s Office together with Roskomnadzor are preparing an initiative to revoke licenses from telecom operators that allow fraudulent calls. We are talking about amendments to the Law “On Communications”. However, the Ministry of Digital Development, which is also responsible for combating telephone fraud, has not yet taken part in the work on the initiative, and operators have expressed concerns about the opacity of such reviews.
