The Ministry of Labor and Social Development of the Krasnodar Territory sent to the Supreme Court (SC) of the Russian Federation complaint In response to the decision to pay compensation to the Panaetidi family for the housing lost by their parents during deportation, the Supreme Court requested the case to be studied.

Lawyer Ivan Kalgin, who represents the interests of the Panaetidi family in court, is concerned about the current situation. As Kommersant previously wrote, in February 2023, the Primorsky Court of Novorossiysk ordered the regional Ministry of Labor and Social Development to include Anna, Olga, Nadezhda and Vasily Panaetidi in the list of citizens entitled to payment of compensation for the cost of housing from which their parents were evicted during deportation Greeks in 1942. The decision was challenged by the ministry in the appellate and cassation instances, but remained in force.

Now the Ministry of Social Development of Kuban has sent a complaint to the RF Armed Forces; at the preliminary stage, the Armed Forces found some of the ministry’s arguments convincing, and as a result, the case was sent to Moscow. “The filing of the case is an alarming signal for those rehabilitated who are of advanced age. We have been walking for a long time towards the real opportunity to compensate for the harm caused by repression by obtaining housing, which is required by law to be rehabilitated. If the case is reconsidered, it will be a serious blow for older people; the prospects of providing payments for the purchase of housing will disappear, which is extremely unfair,” says lawyer Ivan Kalgin.
