In Volgograd, a 19-year-old young man was detained for setting fire to a Koran in front of a mosque. A criminal case was initiated against him for insulting the religious feelings of believers (part 2 of article 148 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). On behalf of the head of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, the case will be handed over to investigators from Chechnya.
“According to the decision of the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, the criminal case against Nikita Zhuravel, suspected of committing a crime under Part 2 of Art. 148 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), initiated in the investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Volgograd region, was transferred for further investigation to the investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Chechen Republic,”— reported in SC.
Nikita Zhuravel was detained after being in the Telegram channel “Morning of Dagestan” a video appeared in which a man (his face is not visible, only his hand), being in the bushes 20 meters from the mosque, burns the Koran.
After that, the agency “RIA News” published a video of the interrogation of a young man who, according to the agency, burned the Koran in the bushes opposite the Volgograd Cathedral Mosque. In the video, a young man, lying on the floor, says that unknown authors of the Ukrainian Telegram channel asked him to “help the country” and “offered some money.” In this segment of the video, he also stated that he was “filming fighter jets”.
After that, the video is interrupted, in another fragment, the young man is already standing against the wall and loudly and clearly says that on May 4, on the instructions of the SBU, he bought the Koran and burned it near the mosque on Povorinskaya Street in Volgograd, filming it and sending it to the SBU. For this, he allegedly received 10 thousand rubles. “I did this with the aim of inciting religious hatred between Christians and Muslims in the Volgograd region,” said the young man in the video. According to investigators, the video of the burning of the Koran was published “on an Internet portal controlled by the CIPSO of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”
