The capital’s mayor’s office promised five times more water trams by 2030

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced a future increase in the number of electric vessels and berths for them in Moscow by 2030. According to the mayor, by this time their number will increase to 60 and 67, respectively.
Regular service of river boats as a type of urban public transport was launched in Moscow in June 2023. 50-seater electric river trams, 22 m long, with panoramic glazing, have launched the year-round route from Kievsky Station to Shelepikha. The second route – from ZIL to Pechatniki – was launched in September 2023. The capital authorities concluded a fifteen-year contract for the supply of this transport in 2021: it provides for the production of 21 electric-powered vessels, the installation of 23 berths, six coastal charging stations and two “fleet basing points.” According to Mr. Sobyanin, there are now 12 electric vessels operating in the capital and 12 berths have already been installed.
“Eco-friendly transport is the future. Its development is one of the priorities of the new transport program,” the mayor said in his Telegam channel. The day before, Sergei Sobyanin said in his blog that by 2030 the number of river transport routes will increase from two to seven, and the number of daily trips – from the current 3.5 thousand to 24.3 thousand. The mayor also promised to update the “pleasure and cruise river fleet ” The Moscow Department of Transport reported that by 2030, “suburban high-speed routes will be launched gradually” along the Moscow Canal. According to officials, routes and schedules are now being worked out with the Center for Digital High-Speed Transport Systems at MIIT.
