Usually the Olympiad is a competition of some participants with others. However, this time everything was completely different: the Robotics Olympiad was held in Moscow, where students from 4th to 11th grades competed not with each other, but with difficult tasks. The competition was organized by the Center for Pedagogical Excellence (CPM) of the Moscow Department of Education and Science.
As Natalya Petrovskaya, the Deputy Director of the Center for Educational Studies, noted, the peculiarity of the Olympiad was that the number of winners was unlimited. As a result, almost half of its 146 participants received awards: 52 people won first-degree diplomas, 4 – second-degree diplomas, and 13 – third-degree diplomas.
Competitions were held in three age categories: junior, middle and senior. Moreover, the guys from the younger category could choose tasks from the older category. As for the content of the tasks, the participants of the younger age group tried their hand at the basics of programming on educational kits. Tasks for the participants of the middle group were connected with the analysis of a large array of data, and in the older group, students worked with graphs and trigonometry.
To test the ability of the Olympiad participants to quickly respond to questions, some of the tasks were announced to the children in advance, and some had to be completed right during the full-time round. If an error occurred, the robot either did not move, or moved in the wrong direction.
