The government at the commission on legislative activities supported the proposal to ban the termination of employment contracts at the initiative of the employer with single mothers who are raising children under 16 years old. This was reported to Vedomosti by a source close to the Cabinet. The information was confirmed by a government spokesman. Amendments are proposed to be made to Art. 261 of the Labor Code (guarantees for a pregnant woman and persons with family responsibilities upon termination of an employment contract).
Under current legislation, an employer cannot, on its own initiative, terminate an employment contract with a woman who has children under three years of age, a single mother raising a child under 14, or a disabled person under 18. Persons who take care of these categories of children without a mother also fall under the rule. The exception is cases of liquidation of the organization, non-fulfillment of duties, absenteeism, forgery of documents and other gross violations by the employee.
