A majority of economists polled by the National Association for Business Economics (NABE) estimated the likelihood of the US entering a recession in the next 12 months at 50% or less. This opinion was expressed by 71% of respondents.
Compared with the April poll, the opinion about the possibility of a recession has changed dramatically. Then the recession was predicted and not expected by an almost equal number of respondents. Agency Bloomberg notes that in recent months, economists have repeatedly changed their forecasts about a potential recession.
The association’s survey, published today, July 24, and conducted from June 30 to July 12, involved 52 NABE members.
Out of 27 experts, interviewed Bloomberg in early May, only five said they did not expect the US economy to slide into recession over the next year.
During the development of the situation with the debt ceiling in the United States, fearing a default and a global recession, investors brought out $37 billion from American funds ($70 billion since the beginning of the year).
