Over six years, the total birth rate of third and subsequent children in Russia increased by 12%. This was announced by the director of the Department of Demographic and Family Policy of the Ministry of Labor Andrei Galkin. At the same time, according to him, families are less likely to decide to have a second child.

“Over the past six years, the total rate of third and subsequent births has increased by 12%. However, to achieve our demographic goals, its growth must be more significant,” Andrei Galkin said at the “World Russian People’s Council “The Present and Future of the Russian World”” (quoted by TASS).

Andrei Galkin said that the demographic situation is now characterized by a decrease in the number of women of reproductive age and a decrease in the number of births, which, according to him, is due to the consequences of the Great Patriotic War and the collapse of the Soviet Union. Now the small generation born in the 1990s has entered reproductive age.

A representative of the Ministry of Labor noted that 1 million 306 thousand children were born in 2022, and 953 thousand in the nine months of this year. According to him, the total birth rate of first children has stabilized over the past year, and the total birth rate of second children is decreasing most significantly.
