The birth rate in Russia will begin to grow in 2028 – Kommersant

From 2023 to 2027, the birth rate in Russia will decrease from 1 million 244.5 thousand babies to 1 million 140.4 thousand. The indicator will begin to grow in 2028, follows from the demographic forecast Rosstat. In 2045, the number of births per thousand population is expected to rise to 10.3, up from 8.5 in 2023.
As of January 1, 2023, 146 million people lived in Russia. By the beginning of 2046, Rosstat expects, the country’s population will be 138 million people. At the same time, a decrease in natural population decline is predicted by almost 1.5 times – from 600.7 thousand this year to 402.4 thousand in 2045.
Rosstat predicts that in 2023 life expectancy will be 73.1 years, and by 2045 it will increase to 79.83 years. By the middle of the next decade, life expectancy for women is expected to be about 83.24 years, for men – 75.89 years.
The record number of births in the post-Soviet history of Russia was recorded in 2014 (1.943 million), after which the figure decreased every year. According to Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, in the first half of 2023 the birth rate decreased by 2.3% compared to the same period in 2022.
In May, the Ministry of Labor announced measures to increase the birth rate. Among them are increasing the standard of living of families and their incomes, improving living conditions, increasing the availability of childcare services, guarantees for large families, and the approval of local programs to increase the birth rate in the regions.
