Bezymyanny volcano in Kamchatka ejected a column of ash to a height of 11 km above sea level, reported the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. According to him, a paroxysmal volcanic eruption is occurring.
“The ash cloud has risen to 10–11 km above sea level, the ash cloud measuring 36×36 km is moving to the north-northeast of the volcano,” the institute said in a statement in Telegram.
A paroxysmal eruption is a sudden strong eruption of a volcano that had previously been dormant for a long time. It is the most violent and intense stage of the eruption, as a result of which the entire cavity of its crater is opened.
How reported press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Kamchatka Territory, the villages of Klyuchi and Kozyrevsk, as well as the village of Mayskoye in the Ust-Kamchatka region, are on the path of the ash spread. A small amount of ash cannot be ruled out there.
Bezymianny Volcano is located in the Ust-Kamchatka region of Kamchatka. The height of the volcano is 2882 m above sea level. Its activity increased sharply on October 16th. Ash emissions are expected to continue over the next three days.
