According to RAS academician Sergei Netesov, Russians will begin to actively become infected with COVID-19 and other respiratory infections in November, when the number of people in enclosed spaces will increase significantly. He notes that the peak incidence occurs in January-February.
Last week, the incidence of COVID-19 in Russia increased by 48%, and the number of hospitalizations increased by more than 20%, according to the federal operational headquarters for combating coronavirus infection.
According to Netesov, the onset of intense disease occurs in November, when it gets cold and people spend more time indoors. He also notes that by the fall of 2023, more than 100 million Russians will have contracted coronavirus infection, which contributes to the formation of immunity to varying degrees. This immunity, he says, protects most people from severe disease as virus variants become less pathogenic. However, older people, as well as those with chronic diseases and excess weight, remain at risk. Refusal to wear masks contributed to the spread of infection.
