Deputy Governor of the Belgorod Region Yulia Shchedrina commented on the reasons for the long lines for eggs at a reduced price at the fair in Belgorod. According to her, the “artificial excitement” arose due to the authorities’ decision to sell two dozen eggs per person.
As Yulia Shchedrina explained, at the fair, where manufacturers sell their own products, the cost of goods is significantly lower than in regular stores. Belgorod residents, according to her, taking advantage of this, “began to collect hundreds of eggs.” In this regard, the authorities have limited the number of eggs per person.
“Then enterprising citizens began to come literally with whole families to buy the maximum number of eggs. Naturally, due to the influx of people, long queues began to form,” Yulia Shchedrina wrote in Telegram channel. According to her, the region is “200% supplied with eggs, the situation is stable”, there is no shortage of supply.
Local media reported, that on December 9 and 10 in Belgorod there were long lines for eggs: at the Saturday fair and the Southern market. According to Belgorod residents, they want to buy eggs for 60-70 rubles, while the cost in the store is over 100 rubles. Local authorities explained the situation by the rise in price of poultry feed, equipment, packaging and storage. By data Rosstat, by November, egg prices in Russia increased by 40.3% in annual terms.
