The authorities of Primorye expect a multiple increase in forest fires

Primorsky Krai is “on the verge of the next peak of fire.” In the near future, a multiple increase in the number of thermopoints is expected. Such a forecast, as reported today press office government of the region, made “on the basis of long-term observations.”
Minister of Forestry and Wildlife Protection of Primorye Konstantin Stepanov said that this year, “thanks to changes in the tactics of fighting” forest fires, they are extinguished several times more efficiently. “If the number of fires registered in the forest fund is comparable to the level of the same period last year, then their area is several times less,” the press release says.
Over the past day, according to the regional authorities, 18 forest fires were registered in the region on an area of 535 hectares. All of them were promptly extinguished.
In total, since the beginning of 2023, 104 forest fires have been registered in Primorye on the lands of the forest fund on an area of almost 3227 hectares. On lands of other categories, 155 fires were registered on an area of more than 16,743 hectares, on the lands of the Ministry of Defense – 6 forest fires on an area of 476 hectares.
Currently, a special fire regime is in force in the territory of the region, which implies a number of restrictions, including a ban on citizens visiting forests and a ban on all types of hot work.
Governor of the region Oleg Kozhemyako previously declaredthat it is necessary to investigate all the facts of fires and punish those responsible. “The maximum number of fires should be investigated. People should understand this and be held accountable for violating the law. This is the only way we can protect both forests and settlements from fire,” the official said.
As of April 6, employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations have already drawn up 57 administrative protocols for violating fire safety rules under Art. 20.4 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, including 17 for officials and three for legal entities.
