The author of the Moscow Calling Telegram channel was placed under house arrest – Kommersant

The Cheryomushkinsky District Court of Moscow has appointed Andrey Kurshin, a military blogger and author of the Moscow Calling Telegram channel, a preventive measure in the form of house arrest until October 28 in the case of fakes about the Russian Armed Forces (part 2 of article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), Kommersant was told in court. The investigation asked to send Mr. Kurshin to a pre-trial detention center. The defense insisted on his release.
According to Mediazona (recognized as a foreign agent), Andrey Kurshin pleaded guilty to spreading fakes about the Russian Armed Forces, but did not agree with the motive imputed to him for political hatred of the army.
“As a serviceman of the DPR in 2014-2015, I still keep in touch with the fighters. I can’t have any hatred. No questions for my channel. I always showed up right away when I called and explained everything,” said Mr. Kurshin.
It also became known at the trial that Andrey Kurshin had been working in the field of rocket science since 2009. Now he works as the chief engineer of the Rif defense enterprise, where he develops “special-purpose products.”
About the detention of Andrei Kurshin reported TASS, REN TV and Shot on August 31. As Mediazona wrote, a criminal case was initiated due to two publications in the Moscow Calling Telegram channel, made on September 14 and November 23, 2022.
In the first post, Mr. Kurshin calls the attack on the dam on the reservoir near Krivoy Rog a “war crime of the RF Armed Forces”. The second post is dedicated to the attack on Volnyansk in the Zaporozhye region, as a result of which, as Mr. Kurshin wrote, one of the missiles hit the maternity ward.
Andrey Kurshin fought on the side of the DPR during the hostilities in eastern Ukraine in 2014-2015. Later, he started the Moscow Calling Telegram channel, where he covered the course of hostilities in Ukraine and wrote about the mistakes of the Russian and Ukrainian military command. Now Moscow Calling has 86,000 subscribers.
