The author of anti-war graffiti Philippenzo opened a criminal case for vandalism

Street artist Philippenzo (real name Philip Kozlov) was charged with vandalism motivated by political hatred (part 2 of article 214 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). This was reported by the Polygon publication (recognized as a foreign agent) and the BBC Russian Service. Previously, he spent a total of 30 days in a special detention center after returning to Russia in July.
Yesterday morning, August 31, Philippenzo’s apartment was searched. In the evening, a search also took place in his studio. Investigative actions took place until late at night, the BBC Russian Service writes, citing his friends.
Philip Kozlov himself was detained, but later released on a promise to appear on September 4. Police officers seized some of his work during a search.
Under the article on vandalism, Mr. Kozlov faces up to three years in prison.
Philippenzo is the author of anti-war graffiti. On the day of Russia, June 12, the artist painted the graffiti “Izrossilovanie” under the Elektrozavodsky bridge on the Yauza embankment. He reported that after that the police came to him, so he left for Georgia.
On July 29, Philip Kozlov was detained at the airport after returning from Georgia. To him appointed 15 days of administrative arrest under the article on disobedience to a police officer (part 1 of article 19.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation). On August 11, immediately after the end of his arrest, he again appointed 15 days for the same article. August 26 he came out released after 30 days of arrest.
In 2022, Philippenzo painted the “Zinc is ours” graffiti for Victory Day. According to him, he was fined 40,000 and 45,000 rubles twice for it. under the article on discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (Article 20.3.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses).
