Armen Grigoryan, Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, expressed serious concern about Russia’s failure to fulfill its obligations to protect Nagorno-Karabakh, as established in the tripartite statement of November 9, 2020.
As Armenpress reports, at a briefing Grigoryan said that Russian peacekeepers did not take any action in response to Azerbaijan’s “anti-terrorist operation.”
“They are spreading some statements as if they learned about this only a few minutes ago, but in fact, starting from September 4, we informed the international community about the growing tension. The head of the Armenian government, Pashinyan, sent a letter to Russian leader Vladimir Putin in which the situation is region was outlined in detail. And they have a responsibility, and they must fulfill it,” said the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia.
Baku previously stated that the operation in Karabakh was a response to regular shelling by the Armenian military and their mining of territories. At the same time, the Russian Foreign Ministry explained that Russian peacekeepers located in the region learned about the military operation a few minutes before it began.
