Over the past day, the area of forest fires in Russia has increased by more than 12 thousand hectares, up to 122.5 thousand hectares, reports TASS with reference to Avialesookhrana data. There are 117 forest fires in the country, 64 fires were extinguished during the day.
The largest fires are in Yakutia, where 74,667 hectares were covered by fire. Also, large natural fires were recorded in Komi (15,722 ha), Ryazan (14,000 ha) and Nizhny Novgorod (6,500 ha) regions, in the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug (6,992 ha).
5,250 people and 912 pieces of equipment are involved in extinguishing fires. A special fire-fighting regime has been introduced in 64 regions, in six of them an emergency regime has been declared in some areas.
August 23 Russian government created commission for the elimination of forest fires. Ministry of Finance proposed to develop a unified mechanism for managing the extinguishing system and transfer the Avialesookhrana to the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. In the Ministry of Emergency Situations complained the lack of equipment for extinguishing fires.
