The Arctic race took place in Arkhangelsk

The winter Arctic race took place for the first time in Arkhangelsk. The event was held in the format of a sports festival “In the footsteps of magicians”: guests were able not only to demonstrate their sports training, but also to take part in the entertainment program.

“The Arctic race fully justified its name: today there is frost and blizzard in Arkhangelsk,” said Deputy Governor of the Arkhangelsk Region Sergei Pivkov. – Despite the climate tests, hundreds of lovers of running and an active lifestyle took to the start line. In the Year of the Family, declared by the President of Russia, many started with family goals. This is a clear example of the implementation of the federal project “Sport is the norm of life” of the national project “Demography”, namely, the popularization of mass sports and the introduction of Pomorie residents to a healthy lifestyle.

Everyone chose one of four named distances: one kilometer (“Snowflake”), five kilometers (“Snowdrift”), ten kilometers (“Ice Floe”) and twenty-one kilometers (“Iceberg”).

Vice-Governor Sergei Pivkov and Minister of Sports of the region Alexey Aksenov ran the five-kilometer distance together with other participants.

– The Arctic race is a unique event for Russia. This is the first time the winter half marathon has been held in high latitudes, so it attracted many participants. It turned out to be a wonderful holiday on the eve of Winter Sports Day,” emphasized Alexey Aksyonov.

The geography of the Arctic race participants is from Arkhangelsk to Krasnodar and from Kaliningrad to Siberia, and everyone has a medal in the form of a diamond as a souvenir.

“This holiday was organized by a large team, primarily the “Russia – Land of Opportunities” community, the presidential platform, and the government of the Arkhangelsk region,” said Deputy General Director of the ANO “Russia – Land of Opportunities” Dmitry Guzhelya. – The race brought together children, youth and adults who, despite the snowstorm, covered various distances. I support this attitude, so I ran along with everyone else. What’s important is that we didn’t just organize a race, but gathered a gathering of graduates of the presidential platform competitions from various parts of the country to help solve not only regional problems, but also to attract new participants into the orbit of our projects. I am sure that such events will become regular.
