American corporation Google released the new Android 14 (Upside Down Cake) operating system, in which the system received a number of new features, including new lock screen settings and an AI wallpaper generator. The new OS also prohibits the installation of old applications that are not intended for Android 6.0 and newer versions of the system.
Users can now choose from eight options to display the clock on the lock screen, as well as place gadgets that adapt to situations, such as a weather icon that will become more visible if it’s about to rain. Also, quick application shortcuts, such as a QR code scanner, can now be located on the lock screen.
In the wallpaper generator you can set the parameters of the future image, for example, color or texture. For now, this feature is only available for Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones, but in the future it will also appear for other owners of smartphones with Android 14. The system now supports Ultra HDR with full color reproduction, natural shadows and bright highlights in photos.
The updated Health Connect app is now fully integrated into the OS and integrates information from other health apps like MyFitnessPal or Oura. The animation for entering a PIN code has changed, where the input line is now filled with different symbols, rather than the same type of circles.
For visually impaired users, improved scaling and special “Magnifier Settings” have appeared, which allow you to enlarge an arbitrary area on the smartphone screen. The new Flash Notifications will notify the user of new messages through flashing flash – this will be useful for those who turn off all notification sounds.
