One of the most high-profile transfers in Russian basketball, in which CSKA was supposed to be strengthened by Will Barton, who has 11 years of experience in the National Basketball Association, failed. The army club did not explain what exactly happened, limiting itself to a dry message on its official website. “The contract with Will Barton was terminated based on one of the stipulated conditions. The basketball player returned to the USA. The club continues to work to find a newcomer for the position of number two or three,” it says.

Let’s remember that Barton’s transfer was announced at the end of January. The agreement, as reported by the club, was calculated until the end of the current season and was supposed to come into force after the 33-year-old athlete passed a medical examination. Barton eventually arrived in Moscow, but, according to the Intercept Telegram channel, he was unable to undergo a medical examination. It is also reported that CSKA did not have time to declare a player to participate in the VTB United League matches, which means that the club still has one vacant “legionary” place in the application (a total of six foreigners can be entered).

The failure of Barton’s transfer is not the only bad news for CSKA. The army team was also left without its most productive player, Casper Ware. He underwent surgery and will miss a month and a half.

CSKA found a midfielder in Algeria

The CSKA football club has signed a contract with 19-year-old Algerian midfielder Sid Ahmed Aissaoui. The agreement is valid until the end of the 2025/26 season with an option to extend for another two years, according to the official website of the Moscow club.

Previously, CSKA offered a loan with the option to buy the attacking player until the end of the season, but the management of USM Alger, for whose youth team he played since the summer of 2022, refused. Aissaoui is a player in the country’s youth team (under 20 years old).
