The Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan amid statements about borders

The Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan in Dushanbe, Erlan Abdyldaev, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan after statements made by one of the officials. About it reports press service of the Tajik Foreign Ministry.

Earlier, the head of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) of Kyrgyzstan, Kamchybek Tashiev, said that the republic could make territorial claims to Tajikistan on the basis of discovered legal and historical documents. He admitted this possibility if the neighboring country did not give up its territorial claims.

The Foreign Ministry did not specify why exactly the ambassador was invited to the ministry. They stated that they had brought to his attention “the concerns of the Tajik side regarding statements by a high government official of Kyrgyzstan on issues of the Tajik-Kyrgyz border.” The department emphasized that such comments could “cause serious damage to the progress of the negotiation process on the delimitation and demarcation of the Tajik-Kyrgyz border, as well as mutual trust.”

On September 14, 2022, a conflict occurred on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, during which dozens of people were killed on both sides and more than 200 citizens were injured.

According to Kyrgyzstan, the Tajik side began shelling border guards and positions of the Kyrgyz side in the areas of Eki-Tash, Chyr-Dobo and Kum-Mazar and Orto-Boz, using mortars, tanks and other armored vehicles. Bishkek later announced that Tajikistan was trying to seize the territory of the republic. Tajikistan, in turn, accused Bishkek of attacking the Dushanbe border outpost using heavy weapons.
