The Times newspaper reports that during the search for the missing mercenary Daniel Burke, who fought on the side of Kyiv, the body of a man was discovered in one of the settlements in the Ukrainian-controlled part of the Zaporozhye region. The identity of the deceased is being established, a forensic examination and DNA analysis are being carried out.
Earlier, the Telegraph newspaper reported that Burke’s father asked the London police to investigate his son’s disappearance. A former UK paratrooper who went on to work as a frontline rescue worker has gone missing in Ukraine. According to the publication, the 36-year-old native of Manchester served in the parachute regiment of the British army, including in Afghanistan. After service, he worked as a builder, then went to Syria to join the Kurdish fighters who fought against the Islamic State (Islamic State, a terrorist organization banned in Russia).
Upon returning home, Berk was accused of helping the Kurdish YPG units plan terrorist attacks against Turkey and spent 7 months in custody, eventually the case was dropped. In 2022, he came to Ukraine, organizing his own unit, the Dark Angels, but then stopped participating in hostilities and began helping with the evacuation from the front-line zone. Burke lived in an apartment in the city of Zaporozhye.
