“Cerberus” will replace the earlier strains of “Omicron”. But the replacement of strain variants will not be as fast as before. Virologist, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Lukashev spoke about this in an interview with TASS.

The scientist assessed the likelihood of such a development of events as high. But at the same time, he noted that the process would not be as fast as the replacement of Delta with Omicron in February this year.

According to Lukashev, this is not a matter of weeks. Most likely, replacement is possible within a few months.

Genovariants “Omicron” BQ.1 and BQ.1.1 (“Cerberus”) were identified in Russia in October. By November 1, six samples of the BQ 11 sub-variant were included in the VGARus database.
