The court sent Daria to prison for 27 years
On Thursday, January 25, in St. Petersburg, a guilty verdict was handed down to Daria Trepova (listed as a terrorist and extremist in the Russian Federation), accused of committing a terrorist attack in a cafe on Universitetskaya Embankment on April 2, 2023, which resulted in the death of war correspondent Vladlen Tatarsky. The terrorist attack was monstrous in its insidiousness: the bomb was planted in the bust, which Trepova presented to Tatarsky at a press conference. Dozens of people were injured; the accused herself was only miraculously unhurt. She was caught a few days later.
Long before the meeting began, riot police and police were brought to the building. Among ordinary onlookers, several people were seen dressed in identical sweatshirts with the Russian flag and the inscription “All the bright and clear to everyone” (these words were in the description of the social networks of the murdered Vladlen Tatarsky, real name Maxim Fomin. – Note ed.). As a sign of solidarity, the widow of the deceased military commander was dressed in the same clothes.
Trepova was brought to court on time. There is a wandering smile on her face, in black trousers, in a white jacket with apples, disheveled and as if quite aged. The girl had a nice conversation with the guards, silently sat down in the glass cage and stared at the floor. Daria Trepova’s lawyer did not stand aside and commented on the appearance of his client: “She chose her appearance herself. I saw this sweater on her for the first time during court hearings; I didn’t even know that she had it. Apparently, she considered it possible to wear some more or less bright thing to the announcement of the verdict. After all, she will face a long and likely severe punishment. Therefore, I considered it possible to appear in public in such a sweater, why not?”
Trepova’s defense lawyer explained his incomprehensible smile as follows: “She smiles when she’s scared. The more scared she is, the stronger this reaction. She has bipolar personality disorder, mixed personality disorder. The examination says this. Therefore, naturally, such a person’s reactions may differ from the reactions of an ordinary person. I don’t see anything unusual in this.”
The second accused, Dmitry Kasintsev (he helped Trepova hide after the terrorist attack), who was under house arrest throughout, came to the courtroom wearing a medical mask.
The announcement of the verdict lasted only 8 minutes 10 seconds. During all this time, not a single muscle moved on Trepova’s face. In the end, she could only squeeze out “that’s right, your honor.” She was sentenced to 18 years in prison for committing a terrorist attack, 13 years for illegal trafficking in explosive devices, and 2 years for forgery. She was credited with the period of detention in the “day by day” format, starting from April 3, 2023 (day of detention. – Ed.). By adding and subtracting, we got 27 years in prison. The judge also fully satisfied the civil claims of the victims against Trepova – 16,495,000 rubles.
Kasintsev got away with 1 year and 9 months in a general regime colony. He was credited with detention as a day and a half and detention under house arrest as 2 days to one. Kasintsev was handcuffed right in the courtroom.
Daria Trepova was taken out of the courtroom under escort. The convict ignored numerous questions from journalists. “She’s in a bad mood. She’s scared, of course. 27 years is practically life imprisonment,” the lawyer said.
In turn, one of the victims who attended the announcement of the verdict, in a conversation with journalists, noted that he was very pleased with the term. Others said they expected a lighter sentence.
