Tennis Governor’s Cup played in Sochi

Sochi hosted the Cup of the Governor of the Krasnodar Territory in tennis. A total of 72 athletes took part in the tournament. They represented 4 municipalities of Kuban – Sochi, Krasnodar, Gelendzhik and Novorossiysk. The tournament was held on the courts of the Fisht stadium.

Krasnodar won in the men’s singles Igor Timoshenkothe second was Vladimir Protas from Gelendzhik, the third – Sochi Georgy Arakelyan. In women, the entire podium was occupied by the hostesses of the competition. won Vlada Svarkovskayasilver medalist Sofia Nalivaikobronze – Maria Letunova.

In the mixed doubles (mixed), the first two places were also taken by duets from Sochi. won Ekaterina Zabarchuk and Bogdan Valentovin the final they beat Irma Nazarov and George Arakelyan. Composition became the third Maria Letunova and Vladimir Protas from Gelendzhik.

– This is the 21st tournament in history for the Cup of the Governor of the Krasnodar Territory. Competitions are among the best in our region in tennis. Now there were 32 participants for men and women. Everyone played great. The meetings were long, the guys sometimes spent 3 hours on the court, fighting for every point and every place.

The tennis players of the Russian national team also performed. In the men’s category, for example, these are Igor Timoshenko and Georgy Arakelyan. Together with them, Vladimir Protas also climbed the podium. Unfortunately, one more player of the national team of the country, Daniil Thank you, has retired from us, his younger brother fell ill with the virus, he also became infected and could not play.

Sofia Nalivaiko is also a team player, she became the second. I note that many former athletes who have already stopped playing constantly and switched to coaching, definitely wanted to take part in this tournament. And one of them, Vlada Svarkovskaya, managed to beat the women.

There were 16 pairs in the mixed doubles. The duet of Nazarov/Arakelyan seemed to be the favorites, but the other guys won – Zabarchuk/Valentov. This is tennis – everyone fought! The strongest at the moment will win, who will have the game, who will have a stronger psyche, who will be physically more prepared.

We were a bit unlucky with the weather. It was raining at times, but Fisht has good courts, they quickly dried up and the athletes could play again. Everything else was great!
