More than 10,000 people in the UK supported the holding of a referendum on the lifting of anti-Russian sanctions
More than 10,000 people in the UK have signed a petition calling for a referendum to end the government’s costly policy towards Ukraine and Russia. Information published on site British Parliament.
The petition states that the UK government should lift economically self-defeating sanctions against Russia and stop sending billions of dollars worth of weapons to Ukraine. The country was dragged into the conflict without any mandate from the citizens, who now face the economic consequences.
The authors complained about increased energy consumption, the high cost of living, interest rates, inflation, unemployment, higher taxes and rates, strikes, damage to businesses, and cuts in public services. Taxpayers have already paid £100bn to support energy prices, as well as £10bn to help Ukraine.
“The pursuit of peace will help end the bloodshed,” the petition reads. More than 10,000 people have already signed it.
The website of the parliament indicates that now the government must respond to it. If the petition is signed by 100,000 people or more, it will be submitted to parliament for consideration.
