Telegraph: Israel to use secret ‘sponge bombs’ against Hamas tunnels

Israel will use the latest secret weapons during a ground operation in the Gaza Strip in tunnels dug by Hamas militants. About it reports The Telegraph.
The article says that we are talking about so-called “sponge bombs”. Already, the Israel Defense Forces are training with these chemical bombs, which do not contain explosives. During use of the device, foam is scattered, which quickly expands and then hardens. Thus, the Israeli military plans to close gaps or entrances to tunnels to make it difficult for militants to move.
Training using the latest “sponge bombs” takes place at the Tse Elim military base near the border with the Gaza Strip, where the IDF has recreated a semblance of Hamas tunnels.
The publication explains that the tunnels, which are known as the Gaza Metro, are hundreds of miles long and filled with traps. By using “sponge bombs” as they advance through the labyrinths, Israeli soldiers hope to prevent a surprise attack.
In addition, specialized IDF engineering units are equipped with ground and airborne sensors, ground penetrating radar, special drilling systems for detecting tunnels and equipment that allows them to see underground – this is the diffuse light element of standard night vision goggles.
