The President of the All-Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics (VFKhG) Irina Viner called the athletes who will go to the Olympics in Paris in neutral status a team of homeless people. According to her, performing without a flag and anthem is humiliating.

“My opinion was voiced back in Perm at the presidential council, since then it has not changed and will not change. In Paris they said that Russians should play in a team of homeless people, and this is now being done. A team of homeless people without a flag, an anthem, or fans will go to the Olympics,” Ms. Wiener told reporters (quoted from “RIA News”).

She added that the situation would be different if athletes from all over the world competed in a neutral status and each country understood whose participants were competing. Irina Viner considers it humiliating when medalists stand under a white flag, and champions stand to music similar to the “Funeral March” instead of the anthem.

In October 2023, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) suspended the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) for including new regions in the Olympic councils. In December, the IOC allowed 54 Russian athletes to participate in the Paris Olympics in neutral status in individual competitions. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko recommended that Russian athletes go.
