Teachers will be taught how to deal with school bullying

The Moscow Tolerance Center announced an entry to an open advanced training program for Moscow teachers called “Everyone is important. Interactive Methods for Bullying Prevention at School.
Classes will start April 18th. Teachers will be taught methods of preventing bullying in educational institutions, ways to prevent conflict situations, as well as international and domestic pedagogical traditions.
According to Anna Makarchuk, director of the Jewish Museum’s Tolerance Center, this is the 32nd time such a program has been taught. Everyone who listens to the full course of the program – that’s 36 hours – will receive a certificate. Education is free.
– The teacher, as a significant adult in the children’s team, has always been and remains the key source of any changes. Each participant of the course, in addition to the technology of conducting classes mastered in practice, will have access to a methodological package. We will share with colleagues not only detailed scenarios and video materials, but also key skills in creating an environment intolerant of any manifestations of aggression and violence,” said Anna Makarchuk.
The program will consist of four face-to-face sessions. And it will go through five modules: “Bulling as a socio-psychological phenomenon, causes and consequences, subjects of bullying”, “Teacher as a subject of bullying. Roles of the teacher: victim, aggressor and resource for countering and preventing bullying”, “Legal aspects of violence and cruelty in educational institutions”, “Methodology for conducting classes “Everyone is important” with schoolchildren”, as well as “Creating an environment intolerant of manifestations of aggression and cruelty” .
In addition to the course for teachers, the program involves a cycle of classes with teenagers aged 10-17 and work with parents. Every month, about 1,000 schoolchildren take classes at the site of the center as part of the program; registration is open for groups of 15 people or more.
