Taxi services report an increase in prices for the service in Moscow due to the snowstorm – Kommersant

Due to heavy snowfall in Moscow, taxi prices have risen sharply. This was facilitated by high demand and an insufficient number of available cars in bad weather, they reported TASS press services of Citymobil and Yandex Taxi. Today, January 18, taxi prices in the capital have doubled on average.

Citymobil said that in bad weather, an increase in the cost of a taxi trip is almost inevitable. Yandex Taxi told the agency that during periods of high demand and shortage of cars, the service introduces a coefficient that increases the cost of the trip. The service noted that this is a necessary measure to attract more drivers and normalize prices.

“Due to snowfall and blizzards in Moscow, it is more difficult to move along the streets: the speed of cars is lower than usual, which means the trip will take longer. At the same time, there are significantly more people wanting to take a taxi. On the contrary, there are fewer drivers: in such weather, many decide to stay home. This aggravates the already difficult situation with the shortage of drivers in the industry,” says the Yandex Taxi press service.

The day before, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for Moscow published an emergency warning, which reported that according to weather forecasters, a snowstorm is expected in the capital from 15:00 on January 18 to 10:00 on January 19. During this period, the southeast wind is expected to increase with gusts of 15-20 m/s, and wet snow will accumulate at night, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reports.

Msk1.ru with reference to eyewitnesses, reports that due to bad weather, six cars collided on the Novoryazanskoe highway in the Moscow region. One of the cars had severe damage to its bumper and hood, and the trunk of another was crushed. Traffic police officers arrived at the scene of the accident, the publication reports. Msk1.ru reports that heavy snowfall led to reduced visibility on the roads of Serpukhov and Stupinsky district of the Moscow region.
