Tatyana Navka revealed a conversation with Roman Kostomarov: “Already mentally healthy”

A source in the hospital, meanwhile, told why the skater is still in intensive care

The famous figure skater Roman Kostomarov has been in the intensive care unit of the Kommunarka hospital for the fourth month. Various media outlets regularly report on Roman’s condition, citing their sources. They write different things, starting with the fact that the athlete is being prepared for discharge and ending with the fact that he still has many operations before prosthetics. The Olympic champion in figure skating Tatyana Navka and a source in the hospital spoke about the state of Roman “MK”.

– Roman is getting better, and we are very happy about it! – says Tatyana Navka. – Just recently, on April 13, he personally called me and congratulated me on my birthday.

The important thing is to call! Thank God, as before, he spoke with humor (I felt it), and most importantly, there was optimism in his voice.

This was expected for me, because he already told me that he would congratulate me. Roman wished me, as always, of course, health, happiness and, especially now – to appreciate this life, every day I live! He has someone and something to live for, to overcome all these difficulties that have fallen on his fate.

Next to him is his family, children, parents, and, of course, an incredibly strong, supportive wife – all this is very important for him now. And then there are his fans, the whole country, which is now worried about him.

He is a young man and the most important thing is that he has not lost his former fortitude. He believes, and we all believe, that he will delight us with his selfless desire to live and move forward. Thank God that Roma is alive and recovering, already mentally healthy. Well, the rest is a matter of time.

And Kostomarov still has a lot of time to recover. As it became known to MK from a source in the hospital, he is still in intensive care, and so far there is no talk of transferring him to a regular department:

– The fact is that all operations on Kostomarov’s legs and arms were long and complicated, and now everything depends on his body, – our interlocutor explained. – As for prosthetics, in my experience there were cases when, after amputation, people returned to sports! No wonder there are Paralympics.

But in this case, I can not promise anything yet. After amputation, the healing of the stump occurs in each person in his own way, in different ways. When all goes well, the stitches are usually removed 14-15 days after the amputation. This is if the wound heals calmly. Kostomarov is still in the healing phase, so he underwent several minor surgical interventions on the stump.

– And yet, why is Kostomarov still in intensive care?

– The fact is that he is in intensive care not because of amputation, but because he had other concomitant diseases. Accordingly, these other diseases must first be dealt with by doctors to the end. Amputation is a consequence of these diseases. After all, Roman had COVID, severe pneumonia, a stroke, sepsis… There is a major disease that must first be dealt with, and then with the accompanying complications that have manifested themselves.

– About prosthetics – how difficult and fast will it be for a skater?

– Prosthetics, you understand, is possible only on the recommendation of the attending physician, when he is convinced that the patient is calm. Then the patient is sent separately to a specialist who will be engaged in the selection of prostheses. But this applies to ordinary, so to speak, people.

In the case of Kostomarov, who is treated by leading doctors from many clinics in Moscow and even abroad, various stages of recovery and early prosthetics are possible. But in any case, before that, a person must undergo rehabilitation, because in order for a person to walk on prostheses, and even learn to stand up, he needs strength.
