Over the past 24 hours, two Chinese-owned balloons have been spotted near Taiwan, crossing the median line of the Taiwan Strait. This was reported by the Taiwanese Defense Ministry.
The first ball was spotted on Sunday at 09:03 local time, and the second at 14:43. They crossed the median line of the strait 110 nautical miles northwest of the city of Keelung in northern Taiwan. According to the Taiwanese defense department, the balls were at an altitude of about 8.2 km and were moving east, later disappearing from sight.
Earlier, on December 8, another balloon belonging to the People’s Republic of China was spotted near the island. In addition, over the past 24 hours, the Taiwanese army has spotted six aircraft and two ships of the People’s Liberation Army of China in the area of the island. Taiwan has been governed by its own administration since 1949, when the remnants of the Kuomintang forces led by Chiang Kai-shek fled to the island.
Beijing considers Taiwan one of the provinces of the People’s Republic of China, while Taiwan retains the flag and other attributes of the former Republic of China.
