“Tags” similar to hashtags appeared in Threads – Kommersant

Threads microblogging service (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and is banned) implemented a new feature that allows users to “tag” messages. The function works similar to hashtags, but with some differences.
It will be possible to add only one tag to a message in Threads, and not many, as happens, for example, in the social network X. By placing the # icon, you can write not one word, as usually happens with hashtags, but a whole phrase, which will take into account spaces. You can also add special characters to tags that are not usually defined by hashtags. According to Instagram head Adam Mosseri, tags will help users connect with people with similar interests.
Techcrunch previously reported that Threads surpassed competing social network X by downloads from the AppStore and Google Play for September-November 2023. Since September, Threads has been downloaded 41 million times, while social media app X has been downloaded 21 million times. Also Threads develops a new feature due to which social network posts will no longer be shown to Facebook and Instagram users.
