Syria will again participate in the work of the League of Arab States (LAS). This is stated in the statement of the LAS countries after the meeting of the heads of foreign ministries.
“It was decided to resume the participation of delegations of the government of the Syrian Arab Republic in the meetings of the Council of the League of Arab States and in all its bodies and organizations from May 7, 2023,” the statement says.
The Arab League consists of 22 countries in which Arabic is one of the official languages. It was established on March 22, 1945, and its members include Egypt, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. Syria was a founding member of the organization, but its membership was suspended in 2011. The League spoke out against the regime of Bashar al-Assad.
